ashtanga30

A fresh, faithful Primary Series practice, every day, in about 30 minutes.

Also works on iPhone: open in Safari and add to your home screen.

What it is

Ashtanga30 is a free 30-minute Ashtanga yoga app that helps you build a consistent home practice.

The full Ashtanga Primary Series takes well over an hour, which makes a daily practice hard to sustain. ashtanga30 builds a fresh ~30-minute sequence each time, always faithful to the canonical order, and guides you through it breath by breath. Every session opens with the Sun Salutations, moves through standing and seated poses, and closes with shoulderstand and Savasana. No two practices are the same.

Who it's for

People building a daily yoga habit. A fresh practice every day, short enough to actually happen. Read: how to build a daily practice →

Ashtanga beginners who need structure. The canonical sequence, with spoken cues and breathing guidance to follow along.

Practitioners who cannot always fit in a full Primary Series. Thirty minutes instead of ninety. The right poses, the right order, the right breath.

Students practising between studio classes. Keep the method alive at home, between Mysore sessions or led classes.

Anyone who prefers a quiet, simple app. No subscription. No ads. No account. No notifications. Just practice.

What it does

Generated fresh every time

A unique Primary Series sequence, in canonical order. No two practices are identical.

Guided breath by breath

A breathing circle paces every inhale and exhale. The Sun Salutations are led move by move; spoken cues carry you through hands-free.

Faithful to the method

Always opens with Surya Namaskara A and B, closes with shoulderstand and Savasana. Optional half-vinyasas between seated poses.

Your sound, your way

Spoken pose names, soft breath tones, and a choice of ambient sound: forest, rain, or ocean. Layers mix gracefully.

A gentle record of your week

Seven small leaves on the home screen, one for each day you practise. A quiet nudge, not a streak counter.

Private by design

No accounts. No tracking. No ads. Everything stays on your device. Works offline.

Original hand-drawn pose art

Questions

Is it free?
Yes. The complete 30-minute practice is always free. There is an optional one-time upgrade (5.99) that lets you steer the sequence yourself: choose "Basics only", take the full series, or pick your own poses.
Does it work on iPhone?
There is no iOS app yet, but the full practice works on iPhone today. Open ashtanga30.com in Safari and choose "Add to Home Screen" to install it. You can practise for free, though the in-app upgrade is not available on iOS.
Is the sequence faithful to real Ashtanga?
Yes. The app always follows the canonical Primary Series order. The Sun Salutations open every session, the fixed frame (shoulderstand, Savasana) closes it, and poses are selected from within their traditional sections. Drishti references follow the KPJAYI / David Swenson convention.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no data ever leaves your device. Everything, including your practice history and preferences, is stored locally.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once you have opened the app once, it works fully offline, including all audio, voice cues, and ambient sound.
What is "Basics only" mode?
Basics only is part of the one-time upgrade. It narrows the pose pool to 18 essential root poses (the core standing and seated postures most teachers introduce first) for a shorter, more accessible practice.
Does Ashtanga30 replace a yoga teacher?
No. Ashtanga30 is a practice companion for home practice and consistency, not a replacement for teacher-led instruction or personal guidance. It is designed to complement regular studio or Mysore practice, not substitute for it.
Who made this?
ashtanga30 was built by Roderik Krooneman, an Ashtanga practitioner who wanted a shorter daily practice that actually respects the method. It is an independent project, not affiliated with any school or lineage.
